What can you use the app for?

UnSpun.com gives users an interesting way to build a list online. The user can come up with the topic and start the list by adding items to the list. The user can pass the list along to friends, family and anyone else online. Those who view the list can add their own items and pass it along to others or vote on the items already included on the list. UnSpun encourages users to share their lists so that a larger group will contribute to create an extensive list of “best of” items (or whatever the list may be). By allowing individuals to contribute and pass the list, the original creator can get more input on what should be included so the list is more complete. Location-based lists are also available.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

UnSpun was founded in 2009. The application was based around two basic ideas. The first is that everyone has knowledge that they can share and the second being that group knowledge is “more comprehensive than that of an individual.” UnSpun gives users one place to gather their knowledge or opinions and share them with others. The current version includes a number of social features so users can actually contribute as well as share and read UnSpun lists.

What are the differences to other apps?

The list building application is far from original. Many websites offer a very similar service. UnSpun is attractive to users because it allows them to build a list that comes with a social element. Others can contribute to the list after the original creator has passed it along, allowing lists to grow into a larger, more detailed collection of items based on the list’s topic. This sharing of opinions and ideas also makes lists more accurate and interesting for those who read them.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

UnSpun has a fun, upbeat personality that is revealed through subtly cheerful colors and the site’s lighthearted logo. Lists are very easy to understand. Items appear as text links with a small “vote” box to the right. Users can easily navigate through the list to see which items might be missing. The website looks a little busier than some, mostly because of the many category and location links included on the page. These are actually convenient and allow users to find lists that match their personal interests or geographic location.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can join the UnSpun community by clicking the blue “Sign Up” tab found along the right hand side of the homepage (along with the “Sign In” tab which is automatically selected). Clicking the tab takes the user to the registration form. The form asks for a username, password, email address, full name, city location and school (if the user has a school). The user must also enter a Captcha code before submitting the form. A blue button at the top of the form invites users to sign up with their Facebook account.

What does it cost to use the application?

UnSpun invites all users to sign up and build lists at no cost. There are no subscription fees or other charges required to create and maintain an account. The user is not expected to make any purchases. The site is strictly for fun and entertainment. Users can create and contribute to as many lists as they like. The price is perfect for the service, which can amount to many minutes of entertainment for those who enjoy reading online lists.

Who would you recommend the application to?

UnSpun.com is aimed at anyone who enjoys making and reading online lists. The application allows users to get others involved in their list building efforts by sharing them with others who can contribute. The application is very easy to use so no extensive computer knowledge is necessary. Users can build multiple lists and see what others think about the items they put on them through the built in voting system.
